1. Traveling Across the Pacific

Flight Overview
Chicago to Dubai Flight Overview

After 18 hours of flying and 23 hours of travel, my group and I are finally settled into The ACT Hotel in Sharjah.

I am excited to try out the many amenities of this hotel, including an outdoor bar and pool, gym, and their half-board buffet service!

My first international traveling experience was a good one. It started flying from MSP Airport -> Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. From there I flew with Emirates Airlines on a 13h 25m flight over 7000 miles! They delivered great service, including 3 meals, head pillows/blankets/eye-masks/headphones/footies, an expansive entertainment system with games, flight information, films and shows to watch and more. Each of the meals served were surprisingly tasty including a bbq chicken, mashed potatoes, and beans dish with a dulce de leche dessert; a mini boxed cheese pizza; and a breakfast of eggs, mushrooms, potatoes, fruit, yogurt and a drink of choice to go along with each meal. Though I decided to read my book or sleep most of the trip, the passengers next to me watched a bunch of movies that I would occasionally look over at and enjoy.

As I said earlier, I was knocked out for most of the trip, making the most of my favorite eye mask (Seriously, I can’t enjoy sleep the same without it, but I digress). When I wasn’t sleeping I was finishing the 2nd and 3rd installment of my favorite book series as of right now, the Voice of the Ancestors. It’s a black self-empowerment series aiming to educate people on the misinformation given to them about the history of the black community throughout history. I feel as if it has opened my eyes to a lot and refocused my energy toward the black community, so i’ll leave a link here if anyone wants to check it out or gift it to a friend. When flying over Iran(since I slept through the flight over Europe), I was able to enjoy views of the Zargos Mountains of Iran and beautiful skies across the Middle East! Here are a few of my favorites that I captured.
